FRANKSTON LINE COMMUTERS TO BENEFIT FROM NEW RAIL SERVICES

Frankston line commuters are set to benefit from two new services taking them into the City each weekday from Monday 20 July announced Carrum State MP Jenny Lindell today.

The extra services form part of 290 new and extended services to be rolled out across the metropolitan network, Ms Lindell said.

From Monday 20 July, a new peak service will depart every weekday from Carrum Station at 7.37 am, arriving at Flinders Street Station at 8.28 am.

A new Early Bird service will depart every weekday from Frankston Station at 5.32 am, arriving at Flinders Street Station at 6.38 am. Early Bird provides free early morning travel for all commuters on the metropolitan train network who arrive at their destination before 7am.

“These new services recognise the growing need for public transport in the Carrum area,” Ms Lindell said.

“And work is well underway on the Frankston Station upgrade, with significant improvements to disability access, better weather protection, new seats and bins, and a refurbishment of the toilets. There will also be an upgrade of safety and security, with better lighting and improved digital CCTV cameras at the station, which will give police live video access, as well as 30 days of high-quality CCTV recording.”

“The recent State Budget also included funding totalling $650.6 million for the purchase of 20 new X-Trapolis trains to cater for the increasing demand on our public transport network,” said Ms Lindell.
